How can I save costs with a moving elevator?
To operate a moving lift, you need at least 2 people upstairs and 2 people downstairs. If you provide your own helpers, fewer movers are needed, which helps save costs. Ensure that your belongings are well sorted and ready for loading. When loading the moving truck, the belongings are loaded in a specific order. First, a series of moving boxes onto which chairs and other loose items can be placed. Then, large square items like cabinets and beds, building up the loading space in a Tetris-style manner.
The benefits of a moving lift include:
- The moving process is faster - On the platform, you can place 15 boxes at once, saving you from climbing stairs 15 times.
- The moving process is less strenuous - Suppose you have 50 boxes on the 3rd floor, that would be 150 floors of stairs to climb.
- Prevents damage - Large objects sometimes have difficulty fitting through a staircase. The risk of damage is significantly reduced by using a lift to transport them from outside.
Do I need a permit or exemption for a moving lift?
When you are moving with a lift and it blocks the street, the municipality may require an exemption. In some places, such as Haarlem, the municipality always requires a permit to be applied for. The lift must have space to be used, so sometimes it is necessary to keep parking spaces free. In addition to the moving lift, the moving truck must also be parked next to it so that work can be done directly from the loading platform.
Requirements for using a moving elevator
Consider the following when you want to use a moving lift for your move:
- The lift has the size of a small truck
- The lift must be able to stand directly under the window or balcony, or maximum 10 meters from the wall
- For this, the sidewalk or 2 parking spaces must be kept clear
- In some cases, it is necessary to apply for a permit from the municipality for this, which we can arrange for you in consultation
- The surface on which the lift stands must be solid
- The lift must be able to lean against the facade, directly under the window or against the railing of the balcony
- The facade or railing is sturdy enough to support the lift
- In case of bad weather and strong wind, the lift cannot be used.
Costs for using a moving elevator
The costs for the deployment of a lift with an operator amount to €175 for the first hour and an additional €100 for each subsequent hour. We will specify the costs for the deployment in the moving quote.
Is moving with a moving lift insured?
Moving with a lift is at your own risk, and any damage to the property is not covered. However, your belongings are insured during the move, so if, for example, your items fall, this is covered.
