Moving Checklist Phase 1: Once You Know When You're Moving.

Moving is a challenging task that can add extra stress to your daily life, such as work, social contacts, and family. Adding this big task to a full schedule can make you feel overwhelmed. But there are ways to alleviate the pressure of moving, one of which is a moving checklist!

  • Terminate your lease or put your house up for sale.

Be mindful of the notice period for terminating your lease or put your house up for sale well in advance.

  • Check if you are eligible for rent subsidy.

Check if you are eligible for rent subsidy. Read the conditions and legislation regarding rent subsidy and apply for it as soon as possible.

  • Arrange a new lease contract or mortgage.

Pay close attention when arranging a new lease contract. Read the contract carefully, including the fine print. This also applies to arranging a mortgage.

  • Address and postcode of your new home.

Make sure you always have the address and postcode of your new home at hand.

  • Notify your provider(s) that you are moving.

You can cancel your subscriptions for internet, phone, and television and switch to another provider. If your current packages can also be delivered to the new address, you can take the subscriptions with you to your new home. Contact your provider(s) for more information.

  • Request leave from your employer.

Request leave in advance so you can focus on the move. Don't underestimate it and take the time for your move.

  • Are you entitled to relocation compensation?

  • Deductible moving costs.

A distinction is made between deductible costs for a business and for a private individual. Look up on the internet which moving costs are deductible.

  • Cancel subscriptions and paid services.

Cancel your subscriptions on time. Think about newspapers, magazines, or the gym. Make sure you always have proof of cancellation. Also, it's important to inform the cleaner and window cleaner that you are moving.

  • Determine the layout of your new home.

Take measurements of all rooms so you can start planning the layout of your new home well in advance.

  • Arrange for a moving lift.

The last point of the moving checklist phase 1 is to fill in and submit your details via the reservation form, or you can contact us by phone. Based on your information, we will estimate whether everything can be transported in one trip and how much time we will need for this.

Moving Checklist Phase 1.1: Do You Have Children?

  • Arrange childcare for your children.

Moving Checklist Phase 3: Four Weeks Before Your Move

  • Inform your general practitioner, dentist, and pharmacy about the move.

  • Cancel electricity, water, and gas services at the old residence.

Moving Checklist Phase 4: Two Weeks Before Your Move

  • Return borrowed/rented items.

Have you rented tools, borrowed items from neighbors, or borrowed books from the library? Return borrowed/rented items before moving.

  • Home improvement in your new residence.

Painting the ceiling? Wallpapering walls? Installing new carpet or laminate flooring? Arrange this before you move so you can place all furniture immediately after the move.

Moving Checklist Phase 5: Week of Your Move.

  • Store valuable items securely.

In this part of the moving checklist phase 5, pay extra attention to your valuable items to ensure you don't misplace them.

  • Food and drinks for moving day and the following day.

Ensure you have enough food and drinks at home on the day you move and the day after. Keep in mind that you won't be able to use the refrigerator during this time.

  • Defrost refrigerator and freezer.

  • Wash and iron dirty clothes.
