Moving Checklist Phase 1: Once You Know When You're Moving.
Moving is a challenging task that can add extra stress to your daily life, such as work, social contacts, and family. Adding this big task to a full schedule can make you feel overwhelmed. But there are ways to alleviate the pressure of moving, one of which is a moving checklist!
- Terminate your lease or put your house up for sale.
Be mindful of the notice period for terminating your lease or put your house up for sale well in advance.
- Check if you are eligible for rent subsidy.
Check if you are eligible for rent subsidy. Read the conditions and legislation regarding rent subsidy and apply for it as soon as possible.
- Arrange a new lease contract or mortgage.
Pay close attention when arranging a new lease contract. Read the contract carefully, including the fine print. This also applies to arranging a mortgage.
- Address and postcode of your new home.
Make sure you always have the address and postcode of your new home at hand.
- Notify your provider(s) that you are moving.
You can cancel your subscriptions for internet, phone, and television and switch to another provider. If your current packages can also be delivered to the new address, you can take the subscriptions with you to your new home. Contact your provider(s) for more information.
- Request leave from your employer.
Request leave in advance so you can focus on the move. Don't underestimate it and take the time for your move.
- Are you entitled to relocation compensation?
Whether you are entitled to relocation compensation depends on your personal situation. You can find more information about this on the internet or you can contact the government information line (Call Government Information: 1400).
- Deductible moving costs.
A distinction is made between deductible costs for a business and for a private individual. Look up on the internet which moving costs are deductible.
- Cancel subscriptions and paid services.
Cancel your subscriptions on time. Think about newspapers, magazines, or the gym. Make sure you always have proof of cancellation. Also, it's important to inform the cleaner and window cleaner that you are moving.
- Determine the layout of your new home.
Take measurements of all rooms so you can start planning the layout of your new home well in advance.
- Arrange for a moving lift.

The last point of the moving checklist phase 1 is to fill in and submit your details via the reservation form, or you can contact us by phone. Based on your information, we will estimate whether everything can be transported in one trip and how much time we will need for this.
Moving Checklist Phase 1.1: Do You Have Children?
- Arrange childcare for your children.
The first point of the moving checklist is to arrange childcare. Moving requires a lot of time and energy. Therefore, it can be helpful if someone can take care of your children on the days you are moving. This also applies to the days when you are busy packing and dismantling furniture.
- Inform school/childcare about the move.
Notify your children's school in advance that you are moving.
- Look for a new school/childcare.
Start looking for a new school for your children well in advance. Passendonderwijs.nl recommends registering at the new school at least 10 weeks in advance. This was the last point of the moving checklist phase 1.1!
Moving Checklist Phase 1.2: Do You Have Pets?
- Arrange care for your pets.
The second point of the moving checklist is about pets. It's useful to arrange care for your pets during the move, as this provides extra peace of mind during the process.
- Are pets allowed in your new home?
Check whether pets are allowed in your new home.
- Inform your current veterinarian about the move.
Notify your veterinarian that you are moving.
- Find a new veterinarian.
Look for a new veterinarian near your new home.
Moving Checklist Phase 2.1: Are You an Entrepreneur?
Moving Checklist 2.2 provides some points of attention for you as an entrepreneur.
- Chamber of Commerce (your address will automatically be updated for the tax authorities, but check this)
- Business relations (e.g., customers)
- Notary
- Suppliers

Moving Checklist 2.2 provides some points of attention when you own a car/motorcycle.

Moving Checklist Phase 3: Four Weeks Before Your Move
- Inform your general practitioner, dentist, and pharmacy about the move.
Always inform your general practitioner and dentist of any change of address.
- Find a new general practitioner, dentist, and pharmacy.
Search for suitable healthcare providers near your new home.
- Locate the nearest hospital in advance.
Be well-prepared and find out where the nearest hospital is located.
- Cancel and arrange insurance policies.
Sort out all insurance matters well in advance. Notify your insurer that you are moving.
- Cancel electricity, water, and gas services at the old residence.

Moving Checklist Phase 4: Two Weeks Before Your Move

- Pack all liquids in a separate box.
If you're taking anything liquid that could leak, it's best to pack it in a separate box. Don't forget to label the moving box.

Schedule a pickup with the municipality to have bulk waste collected. It's also possible to bring bulk waste to the landfill with De Meubeltaxi.
- Transfer house keys.
You'll want to receive the house keys to your new home, but don't forget to hand over your old house keys to the new occupants.
- Return borrowed/rented items.
Have you rented tools, borrowed items from neighbors, or borrowed books from the library? Return borrowed/rented items before moving.
- Home improvement in your new residence.
Painting the ceiling? Wallpapering walls? Installing new carpet or laminate flooring? Arrange this before you move so you can place all furniture immediately after the move.
Moving Checklist Phase 5: Week of Your Move.
- Store valuable items securely.
In this part of the moving checklist phase 5, pay extra attention to your valuable items to ensure you don't misplace them.
- Food and drinks for moving day and the following day.
Ensure you have enough food and drinks at home on the day you move and the day after. Keep in mind that you won't be able to use the refrigerator during this time.
- Defrost refrigerator and freezer.
Allow your refrigerator and freezer to defrost. After defrosting, you can clean the refrigerator and freezer.
- Wash and iron dirty clothes.
In the days leading up to your move, you probably won't have time to wash and iron your clothes, so wash all dirty clothes beforehand.
- Clean the new house.
This also applies to your old home.
Moving Checklist Phase 6: Moving Day
- Pack remaining items.
